Based in Derbyshire, Geoff Kersey is a highly sought after watercolour painter and demonstrator
Geoff Kersey is a professional watercolour artist who specialises in landscapes, and works in both watercolour and oil. He divides his time between painting, watercolour tuition, and writing books and articles.
In my humble opinion, Geoff had to be one of the UK’s greatest living watercolour landscape artists of our time, his paintings positively glowing with light and colour. Geoff not only makes it into my watercolour artists directory, but joins my famous artists list as well!
Geoff lives and works in Darley Dale – between Matlock and Bakewell in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales where he has a Studio/Gallery.
Geoff usually hosts a Spring and a Winter show every year, but between the exhibitions he likes to keep a selection of his work on the wall.

Geoff Kersey watercolour landscapes
Living and working in the Peak District, it’s no surprise that many of Geoff Kersey’s atmospheric paintings feature the diverse and beautiful landscape of the region, with its meandering rivers, steep dales and valleys, farms and villages. Geoff, who turned professional in 1998, has also been spending time in Suffolk and Norfolk collecting subject material at many of his favourite places along the Heritage Coast, where the vast skies, fens, marshes and coastal clutter, provide an ideal contrast to his home region.
Geoff’s traditional style of painting aims to capture the essence of the subject. Loose enough to be atmospheric, yet containing just enough detail to be both accurate and satisfying on closer more detailed inspection, his intuitive use of colour in bold flowing washes, is underpinned by his firm grasp of perspective and draftsmanship, complemented by a strong sense of place.

Geoff Kersey watercolour teaching and writing
Finding himself much in demand as an artist, teacher and demonstrator, Geoff runs watercolour painting breaks and one day workshops at the Pear Tree Farm Arts Centre in Derbyshire. He has written articles for The Artist and Illustrator, and Paint Magazines.
