Watercolour Artist - Terry Harrison

Terry Harrison is a watercolour artist that has been painting for many years using watercolour and acrylics. Over that time Terry has amassed a variety of painting techniques, skills, and experience which he shares freely with his fellow artists.

Terry’s education

Terry has always loved painting and drawing, but when he was a lad at school in Norfolk, art was never considered a career subject and certainly not encouraged. However, in 1965 his family moved to Farnborough, and his new art teacher was inspirational. At age 15 Terry passed both O-Level and A-Level Art, then went on to Farnham Art School.

Terry’s early career in art

Leaving college his first career was in graphics, working for a while in London, then as an illustrator for Yellow Pages. Terry still continued to paint during his evenings and weekends developing his own unique painting techniques. He very soon began to realise that he couldn’t keep up with the demand for his paintings, so in 1984 Terry took the decision to give up his day job and paint full time. He believes that this was the best decision that he’d ever made, and since then Terry has always had a full schedule of exhibitions, private commissions, demonstrations and more recently, workshops.

Inspired by Constable and Turner

Terry has always been inspired by Constable and Turner, his favourite subject being traditional watercolour landscape paintings, where he used watercolour or acrylic as his main medium.

In 1989 Terry started his own Fine Art print publishing company which has over 150 of his images including landscapes, cricket and golf scenes, and these images are now sold in shops and galleries throughout the world. Terry’s paintings continue to be much in demand, in both original and the printed form. He has works in both public and private collections throughout the USA, Europe and Japan.

In 2004 Terry’s book Brush with Acrylic was published and is repeating the success of his first book, not just in the United Kingdom, but to a world wide market.

Since then Terry has written and published ten more books with more titles in the pipeline.

Watercolour brushes and DVD’s

In 1990 Terry began to develop my unique range of brushes, beginning with the now famous “Fangogh” brush. This forward-thinking endeavour expanded into large a range of speciality brushes, all of which are unique to Terry.

The logical progression of this was to create teaching videos that explain how to get the best results form these brushes. Many of these videos can be watched on the Painting and Drawing Channel 167 on TV, and clips of these videos are also available on YouTube.

Being the entrepreneur with a keen eye for what the market is looking for, Terry  also realised that there was a lack suitable paints on the market, so he developed his now famous ‘Three Greens’ ‘Three Autumn Shades’ and the colour ‘Shadow’ all created to help make painting easier for beginners, and experienced watercolour artists alike.

Terry’s workshops

Terry now spends much of his time travelling up and down the country demonstrating to Art societies and clubs as well as various Art Shows, and has also begun to hold watercolour painting and acrylic painting workshops in the US.

Terry’s personal life in the Cotswolds

In 2006 Terry moved from Farnborough and now lives in Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds with his wife Fiona Peart , they were married there in 2011.

Terry believes that Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds is a fabulous place to live, as he is surrounded by beautiful subjects to paint and that as he and his wife Fiona are both Artists, they are very happy to be there.
